Asking for It

Asking for It - Lilah Pace image

"You can have neat, tidy, and safe. You can have tame or you can have what you really want. But you can't have both,Vivienne. And I think we both know which one you're going to choose"

Vivienne is driving home late one night when she gets a flat tyre and has to pull over. She's obviously scared and even more so when a stranger offers to help her.Along with her fear, though, she also has other feelings and somehow feels drawn to him.She meets the same man again at a friend's party.Jonah is a Professor at the same University Vivienne works at.Her ex is also there and after too much to drink starts apologizing to her for not being able to act out her rape fantasy. She is totally humiliated but Jonah heard everything and offers to make her fantasy a reality as he has the same desires.

She rejects his offer but can't stop thinking about it and eventually contacts him. They agree that it will be just sex and not to get to know each other but somewhere along the way feelings start to get involved. Both Vivienne and Jonah have daemons from their past and it's clear early on in the book what triggered Vivienne's fantasy but it's not until the end you get to know Jonah's reasons.

This book captivated me.It's extremely well written and thought provoking. Some people have described it as Dark but I didn't really find it particularly dark.Yes the subject is a very emotive one,but I didn't feel uncomfortable reading the sex scenes here ( in fact I found some of them highly erotic ).Unlike actual rape where the victim is totally at the mercy of their attacker,Vivienne actually had the power and could stop the assault at any time.
I normally prefer stories told from a dual POV, but this is just told from Vivienne's POV,but I think it had to be that way here and Jonah still remains a bit of an enigma
I think, the book did end on the right note, after what happened towards the end with secrets being revealed and the last scene with Vivienne and Jonah, and I just cannot wait for the next one.

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.......
